What is a floating bedside table?
Floating bedside tables are wall-mounted shelves or drawer units with concealed mounting systems, unlike standard wall shelves that rely on visible brackets. They are referred to as “floating” because the hidden installation creates the illusion that the furniture is suspended without support. Floating bedside tables belong to the broader category of floating furniture, alongside floating shelves, floating dressing tables, and floating desks.
What are the advantages of floating bedside tables compared to traditional bedside tables?
This type of wall-mounted furniture comes with several advantages:
- Space-saving solution for the bedroom
Floating bedside tables are usually much more compact than conventional bedside tables and, since they are mounted on the wall, they leave the floor completely free. This helps create a more spacious feeling in the room while also eliminating difficult-to-clean areas underneath the furniture.
- Budget-friendly furniture option
Because floating bedside tables require less material and are faster to manufacture, they are generally more affordable than traditional furniture pieces of similar quality. Their smaller size also makes shipping more economical.
- Modern and elegant appearance
They bring a stylish, contemporary atmosphere to your bedroom, while still allowing for a more classic look through customization options such as design, color, or wood type. Their clean and minimal appearance makes them easy to combine with both modern and traditional interiors.
How do you install floating bedside tables?
If you are familiar with wall-mounted furniture, you may already know about french cleats — one of the most commonly used mounting methods for floating furniture. Installing furniture with french cleats is simple:
- Start by securing the french cleat to the wall. Make sure it is mounted level and use screws and wall plugs suitable for your specific wall type.
- The final step is to hang the furniture onto the french cleat. Once attached, the installation is complete.
Guide to choosing your floating bedside table
We provide a wide selection of models. When selecting the ideal piece for your bedroom, we recommend paying attention to the following aspects:
- size: Measure the available space beside your bed and choose from the 3 standard sizes (small, medium, or large), or request a fully custom size.
- design: Choose whether you prefer a shelf-only model or one with drawers. If you are looking for a floating drawer unit, options include minimalist, retro, classic, and many other styles.
- wood type: Take into account the color and material of your existing furniture and flooring, and select a wood type that complements them. Available options include ash, beech, birch, cherry, maple, oak, pine, and walnut, and solid wood can also be stained in nearly any color.
- color: Ensure the selected bedside table fits harmoniously with your current interior palette. For painted models, colors can be customized using any shade from the RAL or NCS color systems. By default, Design bedside tables are finished in RAL Pure White (RAL 9010).
- paint finish: For painted models, you can choose between matte, semi-gloss (satin), or high-gloss finishes. Semi-gloss is the default finish for all models.
