Beth from Growsgreen (formerly Cocoon Workshop) contacted us with a home rebuild project back in 2018 - the scope was to furnish the bedroom for multiple functions: a space for resting and also for working. The solution was a matching nightstand and home office desk.

You can make a great match even with two different size furniture - the key is that they should be made of the same material. The result is a contemporary asymmetrical interior.

What makes a bedroom cosy? We may think first about soft blankets, rugs, pastel colors, our favorite decorations... but this project will expand our view, showing that a nice workspace corner can be also a key element of cosy interiors.
This interior design project was done by Growsgreen, using our floating design. The basic idea was having floating nightstands and a desk, but due to the limited space, one of the nightstands was replaced with a long, wall-mounted desk with three drawers. This unit serves both as a nightstand and a desk.
The request was to have a well-textured solid wood - European walnut was an ideal choice as our customer wished having a lighter tone than American walnut, to match the wooden floor. As always, the manufacturing started with hand-sorting materials: two huge pieces of wood were chosen for the top, and a single slab for the drawer fronts, cut in thirds, so the drawers could have a continuous wood texture from one end to another. It's a standard feature of our multi-drawer models.
The texture was crucial for the client, so we involved her and the customer before starting the manufacturing. The photos were immediately approved, so we proceeded with the joinery. When the assembly was ready, we performed our 5-step surface preparation process, including sanding and finishing, to achieve a perfectly smooth wood surface.
As the depth of the desk is quite large, we suggested adding extra support in addition to our standard french cleat mounting - additional shelf brackets were used below the desk, offering a semi-hidden look. These discreet brackets are almost invisible and perfectly keep the floating character.
The result is a cosy bedroom with natural tones. The huge floating desk serves as a workspace, and a cosy corner in the bedroom, while the natural look is granted by the solid wood furniture, the soft rug and the beautiful hardwood floor. Grab a notebook, make a coffee and you might want to stay in this place the whole day.
