How to select nightstand size | ordering from mybettershelf

mybettershelf size guide

After discussing the various wood options in our last post, we are now focusing on the sizes of our floating nightstands.

We set 3 standard dimensions (width x depth x height):

  • Small: 14" × 10" × 4" / 35,5 x 25,4 x 10,1 cm

  • Medium: 16" × 12" × 5" / 40,6 x 30,5 x 12,7 cm

  • Large: 19" × 14" × 5.5" / 48,3 x 35,5 x 14 cm

Alternatively, we are happy to do custom orders in basically any size. Feel free to get in touch with us to discuss the details or learn more on our Customize! page.

Deciding which size is the best for you, may depend on several factors:

- how much space you have on your bedside

- what size/type of objects you wish to store in the drawers

- subjective preferences (like one prefers the small type due to its tiny charm)

With this guide we wanted to show the differences between the 3 available sizes, compared to the sizes of standard bed measurements, focusing on UK and US standard sizes. Hope it helps in your choice!

Frequently asked questions

What size nightstand should I choose?

The right nightstand size depends on three factors: how much bedside space you have, what you plan to store in the drawer, and personal preference. As a starting point: a small nightstand suits minimal, compact bedside setups; a medium is the most versatile and popular choice; a large works well for wider beds or if you need more drawer storage. If none of the standard sizes fit your space, mybettershelf makes custom sizes to your exact dimensions.

What are the standard nightstand sizes at mybettershelf?

Mybettershelf offers three standard floating nightstand sizes:
Small: 14" × 10" × 4" / 35,5 x 25,4 x 10,1 cm
Medium: 16" × 12" × 5" / 40,6 x 30,5 x 12,7 cm
Large: 19" × 14" × 5.5" / 48,3 x 35,5 x 14 cm

Can I order a nightstand in a custom size?

Yes - mybettershelf makes floating nightstands in virtually any size. If none of the three standard sizes suit your bed height, space, or storage needs, simply get in touch via the contact form or visit the Customize page to discuss the details.

How do I match nightstand height to my bed?

The top of the nightstand should be roughly level with the top of your mattress — or up to 2–4 inches (5–10 cm) taller. Since mybettershelf nightstands are wall-mounted, the height is set at installation, not by the product itself — so you can mount it at any height to match your exact bed height precisely.

What is the difference between the small, medium and large mybettershelf nightstand?

The main differences are surface area and drawer depth. The small model has a compact, minimal footprint ideal for tight spaces and low-profile beds. The medium is the most popular — it suits most standard bed sizes and offers a comfortable drawer depth. The large gives the most surface and storage space, and works particularly well with wider or higher beds.
